Campbeltown & Machrihanish Light Railway-1912

An old advertising card for the passenger train from Campbeltown to Machrihanish, c1912.

What a lovely, unhurried way to travel the short distance from Campbeltown to Machrihanish. The Train waits for the Steamer Passengers and the Steamer waits for the Train passengers.

  1. Thanks for the comment Gordon. Keep an eye on Amazon for the book. I have seen it come up (second hand) a few times now.
There is a lot of work going on to ‘regenerate’ the wee toon, come back in another year or so and it will hopefully look as good as new 🙂
Thanks again & All the best.

  2. I’ve been searching for the wee book about the Wee Train for a long time now, to no avail. We were in Campbeltown this past week and I naively thought that a Campbeltown bookseller would be the chap to talk to. Sadly no as it appears this book is as rare as hens’ teeth!
He gave me the background to the lack of new editions so it doesn’t look very hopeful. I have the other slimmer volume “The Campbeltown and Macrihanish Light Railway” which I’ve had for years. A really enjoyable read. Last time I was in Campbeltown, having sailed on the Duchess of Hamilton from Ayr, I was all of ten years old! Sadly the old place doesn’t look like it has weathered the years well.
Keep up the good work. Kind regards, Gordon Robertson, Kilmaurs, Kilmarnock.
